Our Facility

Our facility is housed in a historic, high-rise building located in the heart of Philadelphia's Center City District, just one block from Philadelphia's City Hall. The building was built in the late 1800s, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the American Baptist Publication Society, also known as the Crozer Building. The building has been renovated to include classrooms, science and computer labs, wireless computer labs, gymnasium/exercise facility and library, all while preserving its architecturally significant exterior. We have recently added a distance education center where students take classes online.

This location was carefully chosen to make the school accessible to students throughout the city, creating a dynamic and diverse student population. The planning worked, as Pe & T represents students from over 40 different zip codes throughout the City of Philadelphia.

Computer Labs & Technology

We now have 4 wired computer labs, with one of the labs serving as a distance education center where students take online courses.

In addition to the 4 wired labs, we have 2 mobile wireless laptop carts that can be rolled into any classroom to create a computer lab similar to the others, but without the restrictions of the pcs being wired. From these mobile wireless labs, students can work as if they were in one of the wired labs.

We also have over a dozen smart classrooms throughout our building which include SmartBoards and ceiling mounted projectors; a science lab; and an electrical technology classroom.

It is in these places that our students learn the essential skills needed to be successful in today's workplace

Gym

To complete the development of well-rounded young men and women, we have implemented a comprehensive health and wellness program, including Health and Safety Education, Physical Education, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, and Nutrition curriculum and activities designed to make a positive, life-long change in each of our students.

Our students have access to fitness equipment which is housed in our gymnasium. This includes treadmills, exercise bikes, free-weights and nautilus machines. In addition to our gym facility being used during class time, students have the ability to join either our boys or girls fitness clubs, which meet on alternating days in the gym during the week after school.

Library

Opened in January, 2006, the PE & T Library currently features:

over 5000 books in a wide range of reading levels and interests

Popular magazines, including GameInformer and ESPN

Electronic access to research databases such as SIRS and CONTEMPORARY AUTHORS

The world's NICEST librarian

Located on the 11th floor the library is open during school hours and for approximately one half-hour both before and after school.

Students are welcome in the library throughout the day, but they must have a library pass from their teacher or non-teaching assistant if they are using the library during a scheduled class time or lunch period. Students are also encouraged to join the book club with meetings held after-school in the library.

GET CARDED!! As a member of the Pennsylvania Power Library Network, the PE & T library offers access to library collections and databases throughout the state. Students with public library cards can access these resources from home, as well as from the school's computers.
