Power consumption in the home
Now that we’ve talked about resources and resistance and power, let’s look at a simulation of different appliances in your house.
1. Go to this address: http://tcipg.mste.illinois.edu/applet/peh and play with the simulation.
2. Complete both sides of the worksheet! Answer the open-ended question at the top after playing with the applet for a little bit, then answer the rest of the questions on the sheet.

Today we’ll be using computer simulations to explore how vectors work. You’ll be completing two tasks by the end of the period:
1. Use a game to see how velocity vectors for a boat’s velocity in a flowing river affect its velocity relative to an outside observer
2. Play a computer-based version of “vector racer” to see how we can use visual representations of vectors to simulate real-life situations.
1. Go to http://illuminations.nctm.org/ActivityDetail.aspx?ID=42-
Follow your worksheet. This will be collected and graded at the end of class.
2. Go to www.harmmade.com/vectorracer
- Choose the oval track to start
-Play one round by yourself— did you beat the computer opponents?
- Play one more round with your neighbor. Set the game for 2 players and see who wins!
